Price of Video Games

I went to preorder Fire Emblem Engage from GameStop and I noticed that I paid $70 for it. Well more like higher 60s but either way, I got the protection plan because why not. I’m one of those Pro members who gets a $5 coupon monthly, and I decided to use it on the protection plan itself. I saved $1, so that would mean that the game itself is selling for $70 and that makes no sense to me.

Unless I’m mistaken, the game itself is $60.

So again, with the protection plan and the coupon from being a Pro member, I saved $1. If I paid high 60s for it, does that mean the game is being sold for $70? Did I just get jipped? Welp. It’s not a big deal, but I’m more curious about how games in general are more expensive. I don’t remember what it was like from the 5th generation and earlier, but I remember that during the 6th generation (Gamecube, PS2, Xbox,) games were $50. During the 7th generation, games became $60 and I was told “that’s the price of HD.” Wii games still remained $50, and when the Wii U came out, those games became $60. The Switch stayed at $60 but I guess with the PS5 some games became $70 and I think that’s bullshit.

Just wanna play video games.
