To expand on the idea of being approachable to other people, I point towards the ability to just pay attention to your surroundings, or in this case, to the person you’re planning on communicating with. Someone once told me that communication is the easiest thing to do that is so often overlooked, and almost all types of misunderstandings can be cut at the root before it has a chance to sprout into something off-putting. I think the main thing here is assumptions — just because you think someone should know something, doesn’t mean that they will know it. Does that make them lesser? I don’t think so at all. Hell, I know jack shit about lots of things that I consider to be common knowledge to other people (I can tell you more about a fictional world’s history and political structure than I can my own country’s.)
Just having a conscience is what I believe is the first step to be able to just step back for a bit and ask yourself the big question — am I able to talk properly and not piss someone the fuck off?
