There was this fighting game I remember playing where if one of the characters died, he would create an explosion and try to take other people with him when he died, only to respawn. It was a lives based fighting game and I always thought having a mechanic like that (not lives, the explosion) was a shitty thing to do. You can guard against the explosion and build up meter with it, but just as a concept I like to refer to those things as shitter mechanics. It makes me wonder what it would be like if I had something that in real life where if someone got me I would accept it but then I would go “well bucko, you’re coming with me too.” I would become what I hate and that’s dumb, but at the same time appealing because why not?
