On a whim I decided to watch some infomercials as a sort of white noise while doing stuff and I think it’s fascinating to see what kind of time period those commercials took place in, since it seemed to be a thing all the way from the 1970s all the way to the early 2000s. Just seeing people try to pitch certain products and seeing them in action makes it feel like an interactive demo, and there’s also the bonus of the acting being spotty to downright hilarious. Most of the ones I’ve seen are for kitchen gadgets and utensils, so it’s always interesting to see what kind of things can be sold since that’s something that still persists to this day — multitaskers in the kitchen. A special place in my memory is dedicated to watching these dead in the morning when it was labelled as “paid programming” when you were looking at the TV guide. You never knew what you would end up seeing so it’s as much of a roll of the dice as it can be.
