Cookie Box & Steak

I’ve always considered myself a bit of a contrarian, and I usually like going against the common opinion for things. Remember the whole thing about counterculture? Well when it comes to cooking I was always hesitant about cast iron because it seemed to be THE choice and people would not shut the fuck up about it. You could ask what kind of pan to use and specify that you don’t want to use cast iron only to be met with people who fucking tell you to use a cast iron. Like alright give me the answer I don’t want to … Continue reading Cookie Box & Steak

Sending Cookie Tins – Part 2

Sending another batch to some very important people, and this time I tried a different technique for the Linzers. Linzers are sandwich cookies, but the main problem with them is that they are very finnicky when it comes to rolling them out and cutting them. If they’re too warm they will be a nightmare to cut, but if they’re too cold you won’t be able to roll them. The recipe I’ve used mentions to flour a surface before rolling out the dough, but I decided to just roll it out between two pieces of parchment paper, and that turned out … Continue reading Sending Cookie Tins – Part 2

Diet Plans

I’ve been overweight for most of my life, and I figured it’s better sooner rather than later to start doing something about it. When the quarantine happened during 2020, I decided to get back into playing DDR as my form of exercise and I combined it with the Keto diet (low carb, high fat) and I was able to see results. Now it’s 2023 and I feel like I’ve hit a bit of a wall or rather plateaued on weight loss so now I’ll really start counting and getting more active. Learning how to cook is good because I can … Continue reading Diet Plans

Sending Cookie Tins

It’s already past the holiday season but I’ve recently sent a few tins out to some very good people I know. What separates these tins from other gifts is that they have a certain authenticity to them that’s extremely special and shows that you care for the people you’re sending them to. The hardest part for me was actually finding some tins to begin with, and I ended up buying these butter cookie tins from Walmart. The worst part about them was that they were not what I expected them to be. I always knew that these tins were set … Continue reading Sending Cookie Tins

Mushrooms

I grew up playing Mario games so I thought it would be funny to eat mushrooms so I would be just like Mario. Turns out I didn’t really enjoy the method my parents prepared mushrooms — barely cooking them. In this process, the mushrooms still have a bit of a chew to them, and there’s really no taste to them. My parents circumvented this by frying them with some oyster sauce or anything similar. It wasn’t until I started cooking them myself where I really understood the flavors they could bring. Going from just the taste of normal white button … Continue reading Mushrooms
